shifting feet

blank board splintered on the side of the road sticking a nail out, departed from the thumb shouting for space on an already-hitched ride, stop. sitting on a discarded log left dried to the side, rising hurriedly at the roar of an engine. life passes by, shiny and new. slows down, backs up, rolls down a window. behind tinted glass, an eye, no, a shade peeks out, assessing the situation and the circumstances. can i step in? is there space in your trunk for a spare piece of me? a blank board? sand me down, shape me up, make me like new, paint me up, i’d look best in red, glossy. thrown in, gratefully amid peers, semblance of life and others that look exactly the same, in other shades of cherry, red, tomato, burnt in the heat to a brown, dried crust of blood, hanging from a nail, sticking out from a trunk of life, passing by.

thought skimping, be kind to me, i’m trying to catch up

I have been heatedly reading all the things said by our silly Immigration Minister, Jason Kenney, from his Twitter updates to his public statements. Though I am usually not impassioned by politics, I feel he is a threat to one of Canada’s major selling points, and one of the only reasons I was brought to this country—DIVERSITY. Oh, and freedom of speech. I officially have a vendetta against Jason Kenney, and put him at number 1 on my list of people that make me cringe and gag. Number 2 is Katy Perry. Their names even share a similar ring. Read the rest of this entry »

childlike

the wells are growing deeper,  blurring reds with blues, hazels blend with darker hues, there’s something rising inside of me and i cannot put a name on it, it is as good as gold, as significant as yesterday, as fickle as tomorrow, i wait, i desire, i lie restless with feet in position, crouched,  leaping over fences of decision; my nose runs readily, childlike i leave it, blushing pupils are speechless for once, lips bitten by unsureness, a steady, silent riff layers my thoughts unspoken. i want to feel it over and over again, till tonight ends and tomorrow arrives, i want to feel it the same way each time and more, and more, i want this and more.

but don’t let it bring you down. when there is something on the outskirts, not meeting your needs–you are greater than one dissatisfied element that poses no risk. you are fine, in the here and now. and you cannot expect people to be the things you need.  rather, be the things you need to see.

On the Thursday night of Canadian Music week, I visited the Supermarket for the BC Music Showcase. On the Wednesday night, as discussed in an earlier entry, I went to the Eye Weekly CMW Showcase at the Gladstone.  Luckily, I had media access to all the Canadian Music Week shows.

I was quite pumped for this Supermarket show, in that I’ve been listening to opening guy Mani Khaira’s stuff NON STOP since I discovered him through the Canadian Music Week site. I decided to make his stuff my new infatuation. I go through this at times, where I listen to the same band over and over again, sometimes 6 or 7 times a day. I did this with Gabriel & Dresden, Fiona Apple, Alanis Morrissette and a few specific songs–The Fear (remix, Dresden & Johnston), You’re My Heart (Lionness), and several others I can’t think of at this hour. As some of you may’ve heard, I was interviewed by Dan Delmar Friday night on CJAD radio, in Montreal. I love the guy, we go way back to j-school days at Concordia University, studying journalism. I mean, we are very different from each other in many ways but I think ultimately we share a strong friendship. Read the rest of this entry »

I was moved to write about my Canadian Music Week experiences while reading Sarah Liss’ CBC blogs on the Eye Weekly showcase. I attended this Canadian Music Week 2009 show at the Gladstone Wednesday night, and was equally impressed with the turnout. Read the rest of this entry »
